Welches Problem wird gelöst?

To achieve net zero emissions, carbon dioxide removal technologies are unavoidable (IPCC, 2022). The challenge in scaling CDR are high (land and energy) removal fix costs, resulting in $/tCO2 removed to currently range between $600-$1000. Thus, the IPCC’s targets could only be met through de-growth.

Wie wird es gelöst?

To offer low-cost CDR, 1010 Solutions employs diatoms in nutrient-rich river environments to sequester carbon via this nature-based technology. Our diatom approach follows established research showing that diatoms’ silicate cell wall promotes long time carbon preservation in aquatic sediments.

Our clients are businesses that are looking to accelerate their transition to sustainability to meet demands by increasingly environmentally conscious customers. We are also looking into serving customers directly via carbon off-set subscriptions.

Inwiefern differenziert sich diese Lösung von anderen?

We focus on microalgae, which absorb carbon efficiently because of their comparatively short life cycles. We operate in nutrient polluted rivers which serve as natural bioreactors, thereby minimising operating costs. We focus on diatoms due to their silica rather than organic cell walls, which prevents biodegradation and ensures the long-lived nature of carbon sequestration in river sediments.
